The Best Places to Dine on Valentine’s Day

The Best Places to Dine on Valentine’s Day

Flowers are nice and so is chocolate. But nothing whispers love like a romantic dinner! Take your date to any of the following places.

It’s a popular night for restaurants, so don’t forget to make a reservation.

THE BROOKLYN WAREHOUSE

A long-standing pioneer of the chalkboard menu and farm-to-table concept, The Brooklyn Warehouse remains a go-to destination for diners who want to experience the best locally-sourced ingredients executed by a solid chef. Check out the great bring-your-own-wine offerings.

DA MAURIZIO

High-end, classic Italian fare in a fine dining atmosphere, Da Maurizio continues to set itself apart by consistently delivering impeccable service and beautifully prepared dishes in a sophisticated setting. This super classy restaurant is perfect for celebratory family meals, or ask for a quieter table for a romantic night out.

ELIOT & VINE

Eliot & Vine is a stylish restaurant in Halifax’s West End with heavy European influence. A well-thought-out, selective menu boasts impressive entrées (like their 28-hour sous vide lamb shank). For a more intimate experience ask to be seated in the Frolic Room, where the walls are covered in dreamy murals.

FOUNDERS HOUSE

Elevating the food and drink experience next to historic Fort View Golf Course, this restaurant is inside a New England Colonial style home circa 1874. Upscale menu items like tuna crudo, handmade agnolotti, and even a six-course chef-curated tasting menu make Founders House a dining destination, regardless of your handicap.

GIO RESTAURANT

Elevated and innovative, but not overly trendy, the menu at Gio consistently impresses on all aspects—imagination, execution and presentation. The dining experience is polished yet approachable and the service is arguably one of the best in Halifax. The cocktails and wine list are as well-curated as the food, and the interior is lovely.

LE CAVEAU RESTAURANT

An essential high-end dining destination in the Annapolis Valley, Le Caveau lives at Grand Pré Winery and is open seasonally. The menu heavily sources from the immediate region, offering a refined dinner menu and more casual lunch. Wines by the glass are made on site, while the bottle list takes international inspiration.

STORIES FINE DINING

You will find Stories inside the historic hotel, The Halliburton. Self-dubbed, “casual fine-dining,” it is a long-standing go-to for special occasions. The somehow all-encompassing six-item entrée selection typically showcases several different proteins, always with game meat or another out-of-the-ordinary item to grab your attention.

THE BARRINGTON STEAKHOUSE & OYSTER BAR

Duck in on a Friday after work for oysters and bubbles and stay for live piano music and an enormous piece of beef. At The Barrington, classic steakhouse options are plentiful (Chateaubriand, Porter House, Tenderloin); however, so are the alternatives—featuring seafood, chicken, and a handful of vegetarian takes.
