If you find yourself reading this, it's likely because you care about the future of Curated Food & Drink Magazine. As you may already know, we are currently looking for some financial help to get us to the beginning of another season—our fourteenth, to be exact. In these 14 years, we've achieved so much, and it's all thanks to your support. But, what we need now is $20k to cover our 2024 revenue shortfall while banking funds for the anticipated shortfall next year.

It's important to understand that while Curated Food & Drink Magazine is a for-profit operation, it has never earned a profit. Since day one, we've operated on a cost recovery model. On top of that, we've been able to produce our magazine for over a decade because I was always willing to work for less than the value of my contributions. Let me explain.

To produce this magazine, I have fulfilled the roles of Editor-in-Chief, Art Director, production artist (layout), and delivery boy, all without compensation. That's roughly $25k in donated time and expertise to this magazine every season. I get paid a base salary for ad sales, but even that falls short of what I would need to hire a salesperson. I'm giving as much as I can.

To be clear, I'm not saying this to complain. This is the path I have chosen (working for less). I genuinely enjoy the work and feel the exchange is fair. Unfortunately, due to our recent revenue shortfall, I cannot continue as things are. I cannot work for free or go into debt to save the magazine. I’m sure that’s understandable.

We're at this juncture where we need more funds to keep this magazine going, and that's why we are hosting a crowdfunder. We are deeply grateful to have you as readers, but we’re hoping we can ask for a little more.

True, $20k is a lot, but magazine production is expensive. At the same time, if everyone who picked up this issue contributed a dollar, we’d have everything we’d need.

This funding boost and support from our loyal advertising base should see us through to the end of next year. With some luck, we won't have to do this again next year. That’s our goal, and with your help, I'm confident we can return next year.
